Osteopathy for Riders

Sometimes, however much we treat the horse, adjust the saddle, correct the feet and ensure we are doing everything right for the horse, the same problems may keep re-developing. This is an indication that there could possibly be an imbalance in the rider which is transferring through to the horse.

Straightness and balance in the rider is vital if you are to expect straightness and balance from the horse. If you have pain or tension in any area of your body there will likely be compensations in other areas. This creates imbalances through your body which can easily translate through to the horse. By releasing any tension patterns, restrictions and pain in the rider we can help both the horse and rider to perform to their best as well as reduce the risk of injury to both.

Indications that you may need treatment as a rider include, but are not limited to:

  • Weakness on one side of you body compared to the other
  • All your horses having the same 'better rein'
  • Dropping one shoulder
  • Difficulty riding using your core and seat
  • Difficulty sitting straight
  • One stirrup leather stretching more than the other
  • Recent or old injuries
  • Pain in any area of your body
